10 Early Fall Outfits I’m Loving Right Now as a Midsize Mom

Early fall might just be my favorite season for outfits. The mornings are cool, the afternoons are still warm, and you can wear both a sweater or sandals – so perfect weather for layering. I’ve been having fun mixing some of my summer staples with a few cozier pieces, and it’s making getting dressed feel exciting again.

Here are 10 outfits I love for this Fall transition:

Maxi Dress + Denim Shirt
I love stretching my summer dresses into fall, and the easiest way is by adding a denim shirt on top. I’ll leave it open like a light jacket and it instantly makes a sleeveless maxi dress feel a little more fall.

Linen Pants + Denim Shirt or Vest
Linen isn’t just for summer. I’ve been pairing my wide-leg linen pants with a denim shirt or even a denim vest.

Sweater Tee + Jeans
If you don’t own a sweater tee yet, you need one. They’re cozy like a sweater but short-sleeved and breathable-perfect for this in-between season. I love mine paired with jeans, but they can go with maxi skirts, denim skirts, or linen pants, too.

Denim on Denim
I wasn’t sure if I’d like this look but ended up loving it! For me the key is to mix a lighter and darker denim together in an outfit. I especially love a chambray shirt with darker jeans.

Denim Skirt + Sweater Tee
Very similar to the third outfit! It’s such an easy outfit that looks a little more pulled together than shorts, and the sweater top makes it still feel like Fall. As it gets cooler, add some tall boots and a light jacket.

Linen Button-Down + Denim Shorts + Tank
When it still feels like summer outside, I throw a linen button-down over a tank and denim shorts. It’s light and breezy, but the long sleeves (and the browns in this one) hint at fall.

All Black with Brown Accessories
I know you’ve probably heard that black and brown don’t go together – but they really do! I love an all-black base—black top and bottoms—and then adding brown accessories like a belt, bag, or boots. It’s simple but always looks good.

Denim Dress
A denim dress is such a good one-and-done piece. I’ve worn mine with sandals on warmer days, but I know it’ll look just as cute with boots and a cardigan once it gets chillier.

Black Shorts + Textured Tank + Denim Button-Down
I love mixing textures here—black shorts, a ribbed or knit tank, and then a denim button-down over top. It feels casual but still put together, perfect for weekend errands.

Denim Jumper + Flannel
This one gives me all the cozy fall vibes. A denim jumper layered with a flannel on top just feels fun (and honestly apple-picking ready). It can go with boots, sneakers or sandals depending on the weather.

Honestly, early fall is my favorite time to play with mixing materials—denim, linen, knits, flannel. It keeps things interesting and makes those “what do I even wear today?” mornings a little easier.
